Monochrom - Cloud Heroes in Soviet Unterzögersdorf

Monochrom is the big winner of the Refinder Cloud Hero Contest. Monochrom is an international group of artists, founded in 1993 in Vienna. They use Refinder to share production data within their team. Currently they are running a kickstarter campaign to fund Sierra Zulu, you can donate until 30th July to support their movie.

While Monochrom is active in a number of areas like the creation of muscials, festivals and exhibitions, and many short movies, with "Sierra Zulu", their latest project, they are debuting as a feature movie production studio.

Director Johannes Grenzfurthner about the use of Refinder:

What mission are you on and what apps are you using?

"Sierra Zulu" is the first feature film of our production company monochrom Propulsion Systems.

It's an alternate world sci-fi comedy about the last existing (and insignificant) Soviet state - the People's republic of Soviet Unterzoegersdorf.

Making a feature movie is a major endeavor. We have 45 production staff, and we are still in pre-production. We already have more than 15 key actors, from Steve Wozniak, Robert Picardo, Amber Benson to Alfonds Haider and Gerald Votava, from all over the world. A bunch of creative heads I love to work with.

There's a lot to do. We just finished the script, prepare storyboards and special effects, run a Kickstarter campaign (donate!) and try to get government grants.

It's an unbelievable international team, the same goes for the tools: an unbelievable bunch of tools in use. Dropbox for production files, Google Docs to evolve the script, Flickr for photos. Often, people ask me questions like "Where are the photos for the press release?", "Where is the latest version of the Kickstarter campaign text for the website?" - and I have to point them to the files online. This sucks because often they don't have my login information for these tools and can't access what they need.

How has Refinder helped you doing so?

With Refinder, I took this unbelievable and chaotic bunch of apps and tools and connected them into one Refinder project. Victory! Now I was able to share all about Sierra Zulu with the core team. I integrated the tweets, Dropbox, and Flickr using RSS. Part of the production team is now part of this Refinder project and we are enjoying access to the production data in one place.

What did you learn on the way? What results were achieved with Refinder?

I love Refinder for being a project meet-up place where all the stuff about Sierra Zulu is coming together. I share private files without sharing my password. I, Franky Ablinger, Günther Friesinger and other key members of the core team access Refinder first, before asking around. Saves time. And time is money. Even in Soviet Unterzoegersdorf.

Thanks again to Monochrom for sharing their great success story! Nasdarowje! :)
